What is a Learning Circle?
A Learning Circle is a proven concept for collaborative and authentic learning and was designed by Margeret Riel (iEARN).
Learning Circles have been used in iEARN for over 12 years and have grown to a world wide respected didactical process. SchoolNet Africa’s Global Teenager Project offers 25-20 Learning Circles in three languages, twice a year. ICT&E (Bob, Zutphen, Netherlands) stood at the base of the Global Teenager Project (1998) and has over ten years experience in Learning Circle facilitation. Each Learning Circle has a theme that sets the context of learning.
An European Learning Circle.
Collaborative learning between students with an European perspective is the main focus of this project. Collaborative, formal and informal learning is meant to be reciprocal. There should be personal advantages for every participant. Participating classes have a high level of ownership in the Learning Circle process: they formulate individual questions (one per circle member) and must research answers for all LC questions. They will process information and present newly created knowledge in Learning Circle summaries and presentations. The Learning Circles will be English Language based.
